The selection process for the Elena Cook Education Fund is quite rigorous and time-consuming.
The aim of the fund is to help underprivileged young people to pursue quality education after SPM in local colleges or universities. Whether they live with their families or were raised in children’s homes and orphanages.
The Elena Cook Education Fund was set up in the honor of the late Miss Elena Cooke, the longest serving headmistress of the Bukit Bintang Girls’ School (BBGS).
Every year, the foundation will brainstorm and work to formulate an effective method of selection. Recipients will sit through a panel of interviewers.
The interview panel comprises of members from the selection team, a team of volunteers comprising past students of the Bukit Bintang Girls’ School, the ECEF Committee and the Education partners.
Every application is processed, evaluated and as objectively scored as possible. Applicants will only be contacted if they are shortlisted for the interview.
The interview gives the selection team a chance to meet potential scholarship recipients and it allows both the team and the students to confirm information or seek clarification.
The interview scores are given by individual members of the panel, the scores are tallied up and final successful recipients determined.
