Our country needs a total of another 220 oncologists to treat cancer patients who now reach 40,000 people a year.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam said, currently Malaysia only has 80 doctors specializing in these fields who work in government and private hospitals throughout the country.

"From that total, 22 oncologists are working in government hospitals, 34 in universities and 24 in private hospitals. The shortage is increasingly critical."
