No need for PLKN if you get into uni

Those selected for national service (PLKN) but have been accepted into higher learning institutions will be exempted from attending the training.

National Service Training Department director-general Datuk Mohmed Asri Yusof said this is because the department is targeting those who do not have the opportunity to continue tertiary education.

Potential PLKN trainees will be selected by the Education Ministry based on their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) trial results.

"If they are selected but have the opportunity to continue their higher education, then they are exempted," he said.

The revamped PLKN module will offer students a second chance by training in vocational and technical skills.
