Researchers honoured at Malaysia's Rising Star Award 2016

Malaysian researchers with the most promising contributions to scientific research are to be honoured today at the Malaysia's Rising Star Award 2016 held in Putrajaya. This year's award is presented by Higher Education Ministry and Clarivate Analytics for the second time. The award is recognising the contributions of Malaysian researchers who are recognised and acknowledged globally among their peers.

There are 3 categories in this year's award: Frontier Researcher, Young Researcher, and Highly-Cited Review.

Final list of nominees have been selected by a special committee where awardees span over a variety of research areas such as engineering, agriculture sciences, material sciences, chemistry and environmental and ecology. A total of 14 awardees are selected this year.

The methodology employed in determining the awardees is based on evaluation of scientific papers indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection. The online database is recognised as the world's most trusted source of multidisciplinary citation database.

Additionally, InCites (a web-based research evolution tool) and Essential Science Indicators SM (a web-based research analytical platform) were the source of additional evaluation metrics.

Malaysian researchers have produced and published 16,149 scientific papers in 2015, an incredible achievement when compared to the number of papers published in 2006 (3,038), according to Web of Science and InCites.
