MCKL Secures Exclusive Pathway to IT Tralee, Ireland

University of Nottingham is offering an exclusive scholarship to MCKL students. This scholarship offers a full tuition fee waiver and it applies to the August 2018 intake for all undergraduate programmes except MPharm (Hons) and BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence.<img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/77037/5b30a875df880.JPG" style="width: 100%;" class="fr-fic fr-dib">It is opened to Malaysian MCKL students who scored at least&nbsp;3As in their Cambridge A Level examinations. University of Nottingham is offering an exclusive scholarship to MCKL students. This scholarship offers a full tuition fee waiver and it applies to the August 2018 intake for all undergraduate programmes except MPharm (Hons) and BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence.

MCKL and HELP University recently signed a joint agreement in which HELP University will be offering bursaries and scholarships exclusively to MCKL students who have completed their pre-university studies and are planning to further their studies at HELP University in 2018.&nbsp;<img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/77020/5b0ba687511f9.JPG" style="width: 100%;" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="Methodist College">This joint agreement includes one full scholarship for one MCKL student who achieved top grades in their A Level or AUSMAT. In conjunction with World Social Work Day 2018 on March 20, 2018, the Diploma in Social Work (DSW) Programme at Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) will be organising a public talk on Social Work Practice and Education for stakeholders from both government and non-government stakeholders.&nbsp;<img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/76936/5aaa3a3eca1e1.png" style="width: 100%;" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="World Social Work Day">WSWD 2018 is best celebrated by highlighting the importance and relevance of professional social work education and training for those who are committed and passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable and marginalised populations. Best practices contribute towards economic and environmental sustainability of societies which is the theme for WSWD 2018. The DSW Programme was developed to provide a pathway for those who are involved or would like to be involved in social services and welfare work but did not have the opportunity or access to professional social work education and training. The DSW Programme was launched on April 7, 2017, and the students have reported positive learning outcomes after completing their first year of study. They will be sharing their experiences to mark the importance and relevance of professional social work education and training with the public as part of the programme on March 20, 2018.

World Social Work Day Celebration March 20, 2018

On January 27th, 2018, more than 500 attendees convened at Dream Centre Petaling Jaya with anticipation and excitement to celebrate a momentous day &ndash; the MCKL Graduation &amp; Awards Ceremony!<img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/76903/5a9e367cb5080.jpg" style="width: 100%;" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="MCKL Graduation & Awards Ceremony">The graduands comprised of students from the Cambridge A-Level (CAL), Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT), and Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE) programmes. Professor Andrew Walker, President &amp; Pro Vice-Chancellor of <a href="https://afterschool.my/monash-university-malaysia?utm_source=AFS&utm_medium=Article" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Monash University Malaysia</a> was the guest of honour of the graduation.This year, the AUSMAT cohort saw 32 students scoring ATAR 90 and above while the top student, Kelvin Chan Wey Han achieved an ATAR score of ATAR 99.0. Kelvin has been accepted into University of Malaya for his undergraduate degree studies in Electrical Engineering.<img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/76903/5a9e367e43640.jpg" style="width: 100%;" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="Andrew Walker">The Cambridge A-Level programme saw 262 students passing the examination. One student scored 5A*s, 17 students scored with 4A*s while 38.4% of the cohort obtained 3As and above. MCKL&rsquo;s home-grown programme, the Diploma in Early Childhood Education saw 17 graduands receiving their diploma scrolls. Denise Thean Pui Yan graduated as the top student of her cohort and received the Datuk Dr Chiam Heng Keng Award for best overall performance with CGPA of 3.93.Most Inspiring Student: Celine LeanThe highlight of the graduation ceremony was an inspiring speech given by Celine Lean Yew Lin, MCKL&rsquo;s first ever blind graduand. Sharing about her difficulties in finding a college which would accept her after achieving outstanding SPM results, she thanked and praised MCKL for rising up to the challenge in accommodating her, despite having no experience in teaching visually impaired students. She also gave credit to the lecturers, staff and students of MCKL for going the extra mile in providing a friendly and conducive environment for her education &ndash; she gave examples of how her lecturers creatively explained and helped her visualise drawings, graphs and charts.<img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/76903/5a9e3680bbdda.jpg" style="width: 100%;" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="Celine Lean Yew Lin">Celine Lean adapted well to college life and excelled in her studies - achieving 2A*s and 2As in the Cambridge A-Level examinations. She also won the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for obtaining top marks in Malaysia for the AS Law paper. For her achievements in MCKL, Celine was given the Most Inspiring Student Award of 2017. Celine has successfully gained admission into the University of Cambridge, UK to read for a Law degree. Yayasan Khazanah has awarded a full scholarship for her university studies for Celine to fulfil her childhood dream. This year, two ACCA students from Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) &nbsp;have exemplified its motto of Excellence for Life through their &nbsp;outstanding performances in their exams.&nbsp;Wong Wei Lim achieved the Highest Mark in Malaysia for the ACCA Paper P6 &nbsp;in December 2016. In the following months, Lee Yee Von emulated her &nbsp;senior&rsquo;s success by winning top place in Malaysia for ACCA Paper F6 in &nbsp;March 2017, and shortly after that followed up with the Highest Mark in &nbsp;the World for ACCA Paper F8 in June 2017.&nbsp;Our most heartfelt congratulations to them, and may they find similar &nbsp;success in their future endeavours!<img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/76766/59c1cdf29dc07.jpg" style="width: 1980px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="ACCA Achievers">

MCKL Students Top in Malaysia and the World for ACCA Papers

Last month saw two teams do Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) proud, emerging as champions and third runners-up in the IMU Science Discovery Challege 2017 inter-college competition. Held on July 15, the trio of Teo Jin Yeet, Cheong Ruoh Wen and Tan Wei Hao each won RM1000 and a trophy as their reward for snagging first place.<img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/76693/59d30e97cfd56.jpg" style="width: 100%;" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="Monash Science Triathlon 2017">As if that wasn&rsquo;t enough, a&nbsp;week later, MCKL scored another victory as its two teams entered Monash Science Triathlon 2017 and emerged&nbsp;champions and second runners-up. Noah Lee, Tan Chia Wen, Teh Hui Wen and Mark Alexis Chia Jihnming won the grand prize that includes a trophy, RM200 each and the Monash Bursary. The sciences have long been highly regarded as the cornerstones of development in any nation, and MCKL has a long record of academic success and achievements in this area.<img src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/76693/59d30e99946eb.jpg" style="width: 100%;" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="Science Discovery Challenge 2017">An average of 60% of students in all three sciences scored A or A* in the A-Level exams in June 2017, which meets MCKL&rsquo;s standards. One particularly exemplary student is Yong Zheng Xin, a senior MCKL graduate, who once trod a similar path as one of the global finalists in the Google Science Fair 2016. He is now the teenager who invented a new and affordable method of detecting early-stage lung cancer. In time, MCKL hopes that they will go even further to apply the same degree of talent and effort in their chosen fields of expertise, and so MCKL will continue to encourage its students to develop their talents and hard work in pursuing that goal.
