The Albukhary International University (AiU) in Alor Setar, Kedah has withdrawn its decision to cease operations. According to Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, the university informed the ministry that it will continue operations.

"With that decision, the matter is no longer an issue," he said while delivering a lecture at the RTM auditorium.

Early this year, the university announced that it would stop operations in June. Since February, the university has been making negotiations with nearby universities to get their 600 students transferred.

Recently, AiU students sued the institution for its failure to issue a notice of closure within a year. The minister said that this lawsuit must be resolved between AiU and complainants.

He added that the ministry will continue to monitor the institution to ensure it met the requirements of the Malaysian Qualification Agency and the Private Higher Educational Institution Act 1996.
