IIUM the seventh research university

- The International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) will soon be the seventh research university in the country.
- There are currently six research universities in the list, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Petronas.
- Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said the university is in the final stages of auditing before being designated the status.
- "IIUM is unique and our evaluation takes account its strength such as Islamic law and finance where it is a world leader," he said.
- Saifuddin also mentioned the importance of the engineering field in transforming the country into a high-income nation by 2020.
